Exams: Kittens
The excitement of a new kitten is something every cat owner wishes they can experience over and over again. And while that little ball of fluff will soon be a cat, the first several months are vital to your kitten's long-term health. After you have taken a couple of days to allow your kitten to adjust to its new environment, we recommend a full exam. At The Zimmerman Veterinary Clinic, we take the time to educate clients on the special needs of new kittens in our initial Kitten Exam.
Because kittens are still building their immunity, it is especially important that pet owners bring in a stool sample of their kitten to test for internal parasites. Kittens should also immediately be started on a vaccine protocol. Our veterinary staff will create a customized vaccination schedule to help your kitten build immunity to several diseases and protect your kitten as soon as possible. Click on the vaccine section of our website for a full list of recommended vaccines.
We strongly recommend checking your kitten for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS (FIV), prior to beginning a health program. If your kitten has one of these diseases, this may have an effect on your decisions concerning the health of your pet.
We will take the time to answer all of your kitten questions, including questions on nail care because we know every kitten and every situation is different. A long, happy and healthy life for your new kitten starts with early pet health.
