Exams: Puppies
A new puppy is an exciting addition to the family. After you have taken a couple of days to allow your puppy to adjust to its new environment, we recommend that your puppy have a full puppy exam. At The Zimmerman Veterinary Clinic, we take the time to educate clients on the special needs of new puppies in our initial Puppy Exam.
A good start to your puppy's life should include being healthy. Because puppies are still building their immunity, it is especially important that pet owners bring in a stool sample of their puppy to test for internal parasites. Puppies should also immediately be started on a vaccine protocol. Our veterinary staff will create a customized vaccination schedule to help your puppy build immunity to several diseases and protect your puppy as soon as possible. Click on the vaccine section of our website for a full list of recommended vaccines.
Puppies will also be immediately started on a parasite prevention program. Heartgard and Frontline will be prescribed to prevent many common diseases such and fleas, ticks, heartworm, roundworms and hookworms.
The Zimmerman Veterinary Clinic staff can also teach you how to manage your puppy's diet for optimum health and how to manage treats, while maintaining body weight. Most importantly, we will take the time to answer all of your puppy questions because we know every puppy and every situation is different. A long, happy and healthy life for your new puppy starts with early pet health.
