The most effective treatment is prevention. At The Zimmerman Veterinary Clinic, we work with our clients to prevent illness in their dogs and cats whenever possible.

Our Wellness Exams are performed by our veterinarian and certified veterinary technicians. These in-depth pet health checks are designed specifically for your pet and include the following recommended protocols with each Wellness Exam: comprehensive physical exam, internal parasite testing, heartworm and flea control, vaccination program, spaying and neutering, dental review, weight evaluation, and specialized blood tests for all life stages.

There are many internal changes that can take place in your pet on an annual basis, which when monitored, can help your veterinarian make short-term and long-term medical recommendations to maintain your pet's well being. Therefore, for all pets, we recommend that you bring a stool sample (within 8 hours) with you in a clean container for testing. We also recommend blood work to monitor health changes. Without these labs tests, many diseases cannot be detected by a physical exam alone.

Dogs and cats, which are younger than six years old, should have a Wellness Exam at least once a year. In some cases, as your pet is experiencing environmental or lifestyle changes, your pet may need a Wellness Exam every six months. You should consult with our veterinary staff upon your first visit to create a Wellness Exam plan that best meets the needs of your furry friend.

For animals older than six years of age, it is especially important to perform blood work annually to look for any signs of metabolic diseases such as kidney or liver problems. Common old age problems such as these, if detected early, can be addressed or helped in some way.
