{"id":310,"date":"2019-12-27T08:13:34","date_gmt":"2019-12-27T14:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.zimmvet.com\/blog\/?p=310"},"modified":"2019-12-27T08:13:56","modified_gmt":"2019-12-27T14:13:56","slug":"%ef%bb%bflost-and-found-pet-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zimmvet.com\/blog\/%ef%bb%bflost-and-found-pet-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"\ufeffLost and Found Pet Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By: Valerie Ferguson ZimmVet Receptionist<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you have ever lost or found a pet you may have\nstopped and asked yourself, \u201cWhat do I do next?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you ever find yourself in this situation, here are\nsome tips to assist in finding your pet or locating the rightful owner of the\npet that you have found.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you have lost your\npet, the following steps may be helpful in their safe and timely return:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Search your house, yard and surrounding areas while\ncalling your pet by name and using exciting words that your pet likes to hear\nsuch as \u201ctreat\u201d or \u201cgo for a ride\u201d<\/li><li>Leave your pets\u2019 bedding, crate or your clothing with\nyour scent on it by the location that your pet left from (blankets,\npillowcases, clothing and pet beds work well)<\/li><li>Leave food and water out for them<\/li><li>If practical, leave doors open to the house,\nespecially doors that your pet is used to using<\/li><li>Recruit neighbors, friends and family to assist in\nsearch efforts by car, foot, bike or by making phone calls to local veterinary\nclinics, shelters, rescues, law enforcement and posting on social media groups<\/li><li>If you have another pet in your home it may be helpful\nto take them with you while searching for your lost pet<\/li><li>Carry your pets\u2019 leash, treats and a photo of your dog\nto show people that you encounter during your search<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>TIPS: <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Large brightly colored signs are helpful in the area\nwhere the pet was last seen<\/li><li>When searching by car, drive with your flashers on and\nhave a sign in the window that says \u201cLost Dog\u201d or \u201cLost Cat\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Local animal control\ncontacts:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Sherburne County (Eastern), Livonia Township, Baldwin\nTownship \u2013 Craig Hillburn 612-501-7814 \/ Princeton Animal Clinic 763-389-2440<\/li><li>Elk River City Limits \u2013 763-635-1200 \/ Barrington Oaks\nVeterinary Clinic 763-441-4000<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Local veterinary clinics:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Contact all local veterinary clinics \u2013 ZimmVet has a\nlist of local veterinary clinics. Humans may be viewed as predators who want to capture and\nharm them. People who are yelling or calling the pets\u2019 name, shaking a food\ncontainer or are making loud noises may all invite a fight a flight response. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>With\nsurvival (safety) being the first concern, oftentimes, when a dog in survival\nmode sees, hears or smells something familiar to them (even the people who have\nbeen by their side for several years), they will do the exact opposite of what\nyou would expect including running the opposite direction or even leaving the\narea and avoiding it in the future, as there may now be a negative connotation\nto that particular spot.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>A\npet that has entered \u201csurvival mode\u201d often times prioritizes things in the\nfollowing order: Survival, Food, Water,
