Laser therapy is\nanother tool for treating and managing a wide variety of conditions in pets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The History of Laser<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ntherapeutic laser was developed in 1960 with documented use in pets in 1967. In\nthe 1970s, it was accepted as a physical therapy modality. &nbsp;As more studies have been carried out, interest in therapeutic laser for\ntreating various conditions has grown dramatically. &nbsp;Therapeutic laser\ncan be used in conjunction with, or instead of medication to manage pain,\ninflammation and wound healing.&nbsp; This is similar\nto acupuncture, massage therapy, and other alternative therapies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Technology Behind Laser<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Therapeutic\nlasers use light waves of a specific wavelength to cause photobiomodulation, or\nthe alteration of cellular and tissue physiology. Light absorbed by cellular\ncomponents stimulates electrons and activates cells to promote growth,\nproliferation, migration, and repair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laser therapy helps tissue repair by causing the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Endorphin release<\/li><li>Vasodilation, which increases blood flow to bring in oxygen\nand cells involved in the healing process<\/li><li>Muscle relaxation<\/li><li>Decreased inflammation<\/li><li>Faster healing and repair<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nmain clinical benefits of laser use in pets include decreased inflammation,\ndecreased pain, and improved wound healing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use\nof Laser<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Laser\ntherapy is used to treat or manage many pet medical conditions, including:\nArthritis, surgical incisions, tendon or ligament injuries, ear infections,\nwounds and infections. At ZimmVet the most common uses are to speed up\npost-surgical healing, aid in treatment of chronic arthritis and chronic wounds\nor lick granulomas. Laser therapy should not be used on pregnant animals or in\npets that have cancer.
